Allegiance Staffing is Part of New OSHA Discussions on Safety

Employee safety is a critical issue for businesses using temporary workers and for the staffing industry as a whole. Staffing agencies need to ensure employees receive proper training so their clients don’t find themselves faced with injuries, lost productivity and added expense.
Unfortunately some reports have surfaced asserting that temporary employees get injured more often than permanent workers. Now OSHA is gathering information on the use of temporary staffing to determine if there is a safety issue pertaining to the use of temporary employees and if those employees aren’t receiving proper safety training.
Some important questions have surfaced:
- Who is responsible for preparing and maintaining records of serious occupational injuries and illness using the OSHA 300 log? Are all the injuries – including any temporary employees – being properly recorded and reported?
- How do you guarantee site-specific safety training is carried out in a proper and timely manner?
- How do you document that the training was completed and who is responsible for the documentation?
On July 26, Allegiance Staffing owner Tom Landry joined with other staffing companies and representatives of the American Staffing Association for a meeting in Washington, D.C., with OSHA Assistant Secretary of Labor Dr. David Michaels and his staff members.
