The Fastest Way to Find a New Job

November 17, 2020 | Career Blog

In an ideal world we would be able to take our time job searching and finding the perfect career. However, since we depend on income, having a job NOW is required. Even if you are currently employed, there are a handful of other reasons you may want to find a different job quickly. Whether your work environment is a toxic one, or you simply feel a change is needed, there are absolutely alternative options for you. Keep reading for the fastest way to find a new job.

Preparing to Find a New Job

It is worthwhile to invest in some to properly prepare for your job search and set yourself up for success. As you get ready to show prospective employers what you have to offer, you want to make sure you have all of your ducks in a row. The best and simplest ways you can do that are:

Make a list of jobs. Before you start making moves, it’s important to be really clear on the direction you want to take. It doesn’t make sense to go through all of the effort of finding a new job if you are just going to end up disliking that one as well. Some things are out of your control, but you can at least do as much as you can to put yourself on a successful path. Make a list of all of the jobs you’re interested in pursuing to give yourself a good place to begin.

Brush up your resume. Now that you know the kind of jobs you’re going to try to land, reflect those intentions in what you include within your resume. Take a look at the experience and skills you have acquired so far and tailor the way you list those things so you are more appealing for the jobs you want to be considered for. If you have some information on your resume that won’t support the direction you’re trying to head in, remove it. Highlight the stuff that will make you shine.

Prep your cover letter. Your cover letter is the first thing that your potential employer will be reading, making it incredibly important. Do not skimp here, but don’t go overboard either. Introduce yourself, give a brief explanation of why you’re interested in the position, and thank the reader for their consideration.

Practice your interview. There is no doubt that interviewing is the most daunting step of a job search. The more prepared you are, the less nervous you will be. Do your research on the company you’re interviewing for by checking out their website and what makes them unique. Get really solid on why you want to work for them, what your goals are for the future, and why you know you’re a good fit for the position.

Executing the Job Search

Once you have the groundwork laid out for the kind of jobs you want to pursue and why, you are ready to start interviewing! The fastest way to get a new job now is to hook up with a staffing agency. A lot of people don’t want to use staffing agencies because they think they are only for temp work or it will cost them money. However, both aren’t completely true! This may be valid for some agencies, but there are definitely agencies that will help you land permanent positions and it won’t cost you a penny. Staffing agencies are the best and quickest way to find a job because:

  • They have a list of job openings ready to be filled.
  • They have a relationship with the employers and will help you prepare for your interview.
  • They will help you fine-tune your resume.
  • There are often benefits that come along with the job.
  • If you do take a temporary job, they’ll hook you up with another one once that job is complete.
  • Staffing agencies work with multiple industries, so you can apply for jobs that fit your interests and personal skills.
