Winter Season Job Interview Tips
January 11, 2017 | Career Blog
With the holiday season about over, it’s time for hiring to pick up. Unless you work in the retail industry, hiring is often slow during the holidays, and then picks up to full speed for January and February. Executives and managers are back in the office from holiday vacations, with new hiring budgets in hand.
Here are a few special considerations and tips for job interviews that take place during the winter season:
- Have an appropriate winter outfit. In most parts of the US, winter brings inclement weather, whether it’s extreme cold, snowstorms, pouring rain, or heavy winds. Make sure you have professional looking attire that will keep you warm and dry for the interview.
- Contact your interviewer to confirm the interview in the event of unusual weather. Sometimes offices close during cold snaps, heavy snow, or icy roads. On a day with unusual winter weather, call in advance to make sure the interview is still happening. You won’t want to travel all the way to the site only to discover it’s unexpectedly closed for the day.
- Give yourself extra time to get to the interview. Road conditions tend to not be as good in the winter, and delays also tend to add up in the winter on bus and train routes. In bad weather, you’ll still want to make a good impression by showing up on time, so make sure you have plenty of time to avoid a worst-case scenario.
