3 Things You Should Never Do on a Job Interview

May 29, 2017 | Career Blog

It can be terribly nerve racking when you have an interview. Even if you have gone through many interviews in your life, it doesn’t always get easier. To make your interview go smoother, there are certain things that you should and shouldn’t do.

Here are some things that you should never do on a job interview.

  • Dress inappropriately. It can be hard to determine what you should wear to a job interview. However, even if you are applying to a bar, you shouldn’t wear clothes that don’t fit you well (either too tight or too loose). You want to wear professional clothing at all times. It is important to show the employers that you would be able to meet clients in appropriate clothing.
  • Don’t appear disinterested. Too many people feel like they shouldn’t ask too many questions. However, it is important to seem like you are interested in the company. They want someone who is engaged with the company and ready to work!
  • The same can be said if you act too good for the job. Many employers will not hire someone who is so arrogant. They can be very hard to work with, no matter how good they might be. Instead, talk about yourself in a way that shows that you will be good for the company instead of just listing off all of your accomplishments.

It can be stressful to go to a job interview, making you either seem disinterested or even arrogant. However, you need to make sure that you ask enough questions so that they know you are interested, yet don’t act like you know how to do everything. And please- dress appropriately. This is a must do for an interview!
